SEOUL February 14 (Yonhap) -- For the final round of Seoul Olympics’ boxing match for the Light Middle division South Korean boxer Park Shi-heon and American boxer Roy Jones Jr. fought on the ring.
Park Shi-heon who has managed to survive all the qualifying rounds, however the punches being thrown by Roy Jones Jr were tough which led the South Korea boxer to struggle.
After the match despite of majority’s expectation, the referee held the hands of Park Shi-heon.
Park Shi-heon, who won the gold medal and lifted South Korea to be the fourth best country in boxing, however he had suffer greatly regarding the accusations on judgment dispute regarding his Olympic match, which cost him his boxing career. As time progressed he was slowly forgotten by the public.
South Korean movie “Count” is based on the life of South Korean boxer Park Si-hun.
Boxer Park Si-hun’s life after the match is not well known, there were some stories of him becoming a physical education teacher somewhere in a rural area of South Korea and later worked as a coach of Korean national team, however nothing was known clearly about the boxer’s life.
The movie “Count” revolves around former boxing champion Park Shi-heon, who has become a physical education teacher, and how kids under his supervision are slowly start to find motivation and hope in their lives through aspects of comedy.
“Count” shines light on protagonist Yoon Woo, acted by Sung Yoo-bin who suffers from poverty and a foul defeat, Hwan Joo, acted by Jang Dong-joo who starts boxing in order to become a bully, Il Sun, acted by Oh Na-ra who is a loving wife figure of Si-heon and principle acted by Ko Chang-seok who was a coach of Si-Heon in the past.
Some one to look out for throughout the movie is actor Jin Seon-kyu who acted out Park Si-heon.
Throughout the movie “Count” audience will be able to see the new side of Jin Seon-kyu who has appeared on various famous movies in the past such as “Extreme Job,” “Space Sweeper,” “Confidential Assignment 2: International” and more.
Jin Seon-kyu who kicked off his role as a lead actor through the movie “Count” showcases various aspects which are very similar to the boxer Park Si-hun, starting with his childhood dream of becoming a physical education teacher, his hobby is boxing and more.
Throughout the press conference held on February 13, Jin Seon-kyu received a lot of attention.
“I am very nervous and I do still feel the pressure of becoming the lead actor of the production, when I contacted the boxer Park Si-hun about how nervous I am regarding the premiere of the movie, he cheered me up by stating ‘If the South Korea’s best Jin Seon-kyu is shaken up to get on the ring everyone by your will feel the same or more, be more confident’ which touched my heart.” addressed actor Jin Seon-kyu throughout the press conference.
The movie “Count” which uses boxing as one of its main aspect showcases a lot of actions scenes within the ring, the sound it makes as the target is hit provides the audience with the thrill, the scenes featured within the movie is an outcome of a lot of practice and work put in by the actors.
Not only actor Jin Seon-kyu participated in the practice of boxing for the production but also actors Jang Dong-ju and Sung Yoo-bin practiced boxing for 4 to 5 hours a day for over three weeks before the production started.
“We continued on practicing, as you can see in the film, out action scenes are shot as we actually threw our punches, therefore in order to successfully end the take, we continued on with our practices.” addressed actor Sung Yoo-bin throughout the press conference.
Moreover, actor Jang Dong-ju stated “I have heard that if you are throwing fake punches throughout the production of a boxing movie, it is very easy to recognize the flaws therefore we put a lot of effort into creating those boxing scenes.”
South Korean boxer Park Si-hun who serves as a motif of the movie “Count” shared his thoughts regarding the production at the scene.
Director Kwon Hyuk-jae stated “I hope a lot of audiences will be motivated after watching the movie, as the actors worked very hard on the production.”
