SEOUL, July 28 (Yonhap) --In the two months since Cheong Wa Dae opened in May, nearly 1.4 million visitors have visited the place.
According to the data submitted by Kim Seung Su, a congressman of People Power Party under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee of The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, on July 28, a total of 1,396,000,859 visitors visited Cheong Wa Dae for 78 days from May 10 till July 27.
This is about 320,000 more than 1.08 million people who visited Gyeongbokgung Palace in the past year, and more than double the number of visitors to Changdeokgung Palace (640,000 people) annually, Congressman Kim explained.
While there were no foreign visitors in May, it shows an increasing pattern with 1,787 in June and 3,268 in July.
In a satisfaction survey conducted by the Cheong Wa Dae public opening promotion group of the Cultural Heritage Administration on June 22 and June 26 for 1,000 visitors to Cheong Wa Dae, 89.1% answered that they were satisfied, and 87.5% of respondents said that they would recommend visiting Cheong Wa Dae to others.
"We will continue to provide policy support to preserve and enhance Cheong Wa Dae with a variety of contents like night viewing, digital art, performances, exhibitions and many more so that it could attract more attention from the public," said congressman Kim. "If Changdeokgung Palace, Insa-dong, Seochon, and Bukchon Hanok Village were all connected as one traditional tourism place, it will become the 'hottest' tourist destination for foreign tourists."
