SEOUL, September 22 (Yonhap) -- Marking the season of reading, the Gyeongbokgung palace, Jipokjae, which was King Gojong's (1863-1907) library, will be opened.

It was announced that the department of Royal Palace and Royal Tomb of the Cultural Heritage Administration and Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation will have the Gyeongbokgung palace, Jipokjae open for six weeks, starting from September 28 to November 7.

The meaning of the Jipokjae, which is on the north side of Gyeongbokgung, is "collect precious treasures like jade."

It was built in 1891 and used as a study and office place for King Gojong, and is well known as a place where he received foreign envoys. It was opened as a small library in 2016 and has been open to general visitors.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Jipokjae was closed in 2020 and 2021, but this year, "Palwoojeong Pavilion" and "Hyeopgildang," which are attached together, will be opened along with Jipokjae.

Visitors to Gyeongbokgung Palace will be free to look around from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

On September 28, Jipokjae and Palwoojung will be opened, but Hyeopgildang will be opened on October 1.

The Cultural Heritage Administration will also hold various experience events in line with the opening of Jipokjae.

The Autumn Palace Culture Festival will be held from October 1 to 9, and it will showcase experiences such as concerts with the stories of "Gojong's Bookstore" and "Gojong's Invitation" as part of the "2022 Palace Bookstore" event.

Visitors to "Gojong's Bookstore" will be able to read books or watch the pavilion at Jipokjae.

At Hyeopgildang, visitors will experience making traditional knot bookmarks, and at Palwoojung, visitors will have time to think alone through a book, answering different questions. These events can be attended without prior reservation.

In the afternoon of October 7 to 9, a humanities story concert will be held in the front yard of Jipokjae.

Joo Young-ha, food culture folklorist, a professor at the Korean Studies Central Research Institute, Yoon Ji-yang, a writer, and Kim Sang-wook, a professor at Kyung Hee University, will appear one by one to talk about the life, culture, books, and science that King Gojong loved.

Information regarding the event is available at (royal.cha.go.kr).
