SEOUL, Apr. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean comedy film “Killing Romance,” starring Lee Ha-nee and Lee Sun-kyun, has touched down in third place at the local box office chart on the day of release.
Per Korea Film Council, this fresh comedy film filled the third slot in the box office chart by raking in 21,000 admissions (9.3% of sales share) Friday, the day of its release.
“Killing Romance” tells the story of a retired top actress Yeo-rae (Lee Ha-nee), who attempts to return to her acting career after getting married to an island tycoon Jonathan (Lee Sun-kyun), who finds out to be an unrivaled narcissist who treats her all but a trophy wife. She devises a rather extraordinary plan for her return with a member of her fan club Bum-woo (Gong Myung). This also marks the new project of star director Kim Won-seok, who is best known for producing the iconic comedy film “How to Use Guys with Secret Tips.”
With director Kim’s comedy film sitting in third place, director Jang Hang-joon’s basketball film “Rebound” slid down one notch to fourth place. Meanwhile, the red-hot Hollywood blockbuster “John Wick: Chapter 4” topped the chart, followed by the Japanese anime “Suzume,” which became the new all-time highest grossing Japanese film released in Korea as of Friday.
