SEOUL, Nov. 29 (Yonhap) -- The Disney animated film "Moana 2" is set to dominate theaters during its opening weekend, drawing in large audiences.

According to the Korea Film Council’s integrated computer network on Friday, Moana 2 topped the box office on the previous day, attracting over 99,000 viewers and accounting for 43.1% of total revenue. The film has held its number-one position since its release on Wednesday.

Coming seven years after the release of the 2017 hit Moana, the sequel follows the titular character as she embarks on a perilous adventure with the legendary hero Maui, responding to an unexpected call from her ancestors.

Musical film "Wicked" secured the second spot, drawing over 41,000 viewers (18.8% market share). While the film, released on November 20, had maintained strong momentum for a week, its pace slowed with Moana 2's debut. Its cumulative audience total now exceeds 860,000.

As of Friday 9 a.m., Moana 2 leads advance ticket sales with over 245,000 reservations and a 41.9% booking rate. Wicked follows with 105,000 reservations and an 18.0% booking rate.

With strong early performance and sustained audience interest, Moana 2 is poised to continue its box-office success in the coming weeks.
