SEOUL, April. 6 (Yonhap) -- Actress Kim Sun-young has won the Best Actress Award at the 20th Asian Film Festival for her film "Dream Palace."

Kim Sun-young was honored with the best actress award at the Asian Film Festival, which ended at the Farnese Arthouse in Rome on Wednesday (local time).

Kim Sun-young took the baton two years after Ko Doo-shim, the main actor of the 2021 film "Everglow," won the Best Actress award at the festival.

"Dream Palace" is a movie about Hye-jung (Kim Sun-young), who moved into a new apartment in a new city dreaming of a new life, experiencing conflicts with neighbors over apartment distribution and is a feature-length debut film of director Ka Sung-moon.

The judges praised Kim Sun-young's performance in "Dream Palace," saying, "I couldn't help but admire the hero who suddenly fell off the saddle and created victory with wisdom," adding, "She was expected to win, and she carried this film like Kafka's trip."

The Asian Film Festival, which started in 2003 and celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, has introduced a total of 32 Asian films since the 30th of last month.

On April 1, the third day of the festival, the "Korea Day" event was held under the sponsorship of the Korean Cultural Center in Italy to introduce Korean films intensively.

Of the four Korean films screened, three were selected for the competition, including Kim Jungeun's "Gyeong-ah's Daughter," Ka Sung-moon's "Dream Palace" and Jung Ji-yeon's "Anchor," while Kim Ki-duk's posthumous work "Call of God," which was invited to the 79th Venice Film Festival, was selected for the non-competition.

Director Kim Ki-deok's posthumous work "Call of God," which is also widely known in Italy, sold out 180 seats in an instant, recording full seats.

Antonio Termenini, chairman of the festival's executive committee, said, "As the number of audiences visiting the festival to watch Korean films increases every year, I feel that interest in Korean films is increasing over the years," adding, "In particularly, Kim Sun-young's acting received great reviews from the judges.

Jeon Ye-jin, head of the Korean Cultural Center in Italy, who held the "Korea Day" event to support the screening of Korean films and accept the Best Actress Award for Kim Sun-young, said, "We will continue to try to make various Korean films known to Italy."
