SOEUL March 28 (Yonhap) -- “Despite of how straight forward I am, going against my mother and going against my mother in law is very different.”
Recently ended South Korean drama series provided by KBS 2TV “The Love in Your Eyes,” depict a female protagonist Lee Young-yi who is a single mother in her 20s but very upfront and bold despite of her kind heartedness.
Female protagonist show different trait from previously showcased figure of wife where they are oppressed by the family members therefore wives tend to keep their feelings to themselves, however Lee Young-yi does not hesitate to spit her mind despite of the situation, her character showcases the new generation of MZ.
Actress Bae Noo-ri who acted out the protagonist Lee Young-yi from the recently ended series “The Love in Your Eyes” participated in an interview at the Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday and disclosed “I tried my best to look somewhat relatable when I was going up against my mother in law figure so that viewers won’t hate me.”
“In perspective of mother in laws, protagonist Young-yi might be uneasy and dislikable due to the way she deals with situation, however I tried to overcome such problems by showcasing much kinder and nicer tone of voice, and kept my emotion under control during the fight scenes,” addressed actress Bae Noo-ri throughout the interview.
The series, “The Love in Your Eyes” features protagonist Lee Young-yi who juggles between house works, parenting, working at her mother in laws restaurant during lunch time, part time job at convenience store and more but keeps up her energy. She does not get depressed that often either.
However, in terms of mother in law figure Oh Eun-sook acted by Park Soon-chun who has lost his son, daughter in law figure is just an extroverted figure. Despite of knowing that her son’s death has nothing to do with daughter in law, she keeps on repeating “My son died because of you.” Despite of such harsh words, Lee Young-yi speaks back to her mother in law which brings relief to its viewers.
Actress Bae Noo-ri addressed “Young-yi is a character that might exist in real world but at the same time might not,” adding “Although the protagonist figure got married early, lost her husband early in her life and has an experience of having a baby, she is like everyone, she works very hard to make her living.”
Continuing on actress addressed “Although she has a feeling of not liking her mother in law, however for Young-yi who has lost her parents since she was very young, mother in law is a appreciative figure in her life” adding “When her mother in law throws emotionally damaging words, Young-yi knows her mother in law cares for her, that is why Young-yi continues to stay in mother in laws house after passing of her husband.”
Actress Bae Noo-ri stated both mother in law figure and female protagonist Lee Young-yi are the ones who can truly understand each other’s thoughts but at the same time arch nemesis. However those feelings can only be created under the circumstances of family.
“Both figures have connection that cannot easily be broken, if there is no connection, each other will not do anything to one another, because they are family they fight and apologize and repeat those processes,” adding “The reason Young-yi continues to live on despite of all the hateful words she listens to from her mother in law, is because she believes that mother in law considers Young-yi as her family. If Young-yi truly thought she was being hated by her mother in law she would not have been able to make it through such environment.” addressed actress Bae Noo-ri throughout the interview.
Continuing on actress stated “On top of mother in law figure, there are number of family members who are always on Young-yi’s side such as father in law figure and more. To Young-yi her husband’s side of the family is her new family and someone to be on her side. Which makes her very happy.”
The drama series depict female protagonist Young-yi getting a job as an intern at a corporation and eventually becoming a full time worker at the conglomerate and lastly finds her love throughout the process.
“There is a scene where Young-yi hears the line ‘if there is a time in the future where you want to take a step forward to do something or to reach out for something make sure you never stop.’ And I think that helped me a lot personally,” adding “Every step I take, there will be something I want and the motivates me to strive forward and to achieve something in the future, as that pattern continues, I grow in confidence.” addressed actress Bae Noo-ri throughout the interview.
As an actress Bae Noo-ri is taking steps forward throughout the process.
Actress kicked off her role as a model for magazines in 2008 and continued on with her career in various movie such as scary movie “Mr. Zombie” in 2010 and more until she landed her role in “The Love In Your Eyes.” Although actress participated in the production of “Moon Embracing the Sun” she most likely participated in small and supporting roles.
“Throughout those days it would be a lie to say I was ok, and it was doable, I kept on thinking whether this path that I am walking was the rightful path for me, however if I didn’t have those moments and time I would have not been here. I think none of the changes can be made immediately you got to truly work for it. As an actress I want to showcase various genre from romantic comedy to action.” addressed actress Bae Noo-ri.
