SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- NewJeans has officially changed its name to NJZ and is set to embark on independent activities, starting with a concert in Hong Kong next month.

NJZ unveiled its new team name and official photos on Friday through its social media accounts. The group’s official SNS handle has also changed from "jeanzforfree" to "njz_official."

Alongside the rebranding, NJZ announced its participation in Complex Live, a concert held as part of ComplexCon, a global street fashion and culture festival. The event will take place from March 21–23 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong.

This will be NJZ’s first official stage performance under the new name.

Member Minji expressed her excitement, stating, "I’m really looking forward to performing for the first time as NJZ and showcasing a new side of us. This stage is an important moment, and I can’t wait to share the music we’ve been wanting to present with fans around the world."

NJZ has been operating independently since November 2023, when they announced the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR, citing breaches of contractual obligations. However, ADOR maintains that the contract remains valid and has filed a lawsuit seeking legal confirmation of its validity. The agency has also requested an injunction to prevent NJZ from signing new advertising contracts or engaging in independent activities.
