SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Thailand have decided to conduct "2023-2024 Mutual Visit Year" project.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on Friday that it signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the tourism sector, including the 2023-2024 Korea-Thailand Mutual Visit Year.

The government has been pushing for a memorandum of understanding since May, considering that 2023 is the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties with Thailand.

For the next two years, the two countries will hold large-scale tourism exchange events for the year of mutual visit ▲ Promote tourist attractions through online and offline media ▲ Strengthen the capabilities of tourism workers ▲ Promote cultural, arts, and sports events linked to tourism.

For that, "Korean Tourism Night" event was held in Thailand on the same day.

More than 130 journalists and tourism industry workers from both countries attended the event, and Apink member Jung Eun-ji was appointed as an ambassador for the "Korea-Thailand Mutual Visit Year."

An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "Thailand is a country that is enthusiastic about Korea, even called forward base of Hallyru in Southeast Asia," adding, "With the first ever appointment of 'Korea-Thailand Mutual Visit Year.' we will preoccupy the international tourism demand."
