SEOUL, Apr. 10 (Yonhap) -- Makoto Shinkai’s red-hot animated blockbuster “Suzume” has been reigning supreme at the local weekend box office for five weeks in a row.

This Japanese anime topped the domestic chart for another weekend by amassing 404,000 admissions (45.7% of sales share) over the past three days (Apr. 7 to 9), according to data released by the Korea Film Council on Monday.

This fantasy animation, which hit local theaters on March 8, has been securing its top place at the local box office for 33 consecutive days by raking in 4.344 million admissions, narrowing the gap with the record of “The First Slam Dunk” that recently earned the title of the No.1 Japanese film released in Korea.

Japanese smash-hit basketball film “The First Slam Dunk” reportedly attracted more than 31,000 people (6.2%) over this weekend, adding to the cumulative audience of 4,447,000. The film slid down three notches compared to last weekend, sitting in sixth place.

Meanwhile, Jang Hang-joon’s basketball film “Rebound,” which just hit the big screen last week and welcomed its opening weekend crowd, touched down in second place (212,000 admissions, 23.1% of sales share), followed by the American film “Air,” starring the already well-known duo Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, entering in fourth place (46,000 admissions, 5.2%).

Keanu Reeves’ action-packed flick “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which is scheduled to hit the box office on Wednesday, scored fifth place by accumulating 37,000 moviegoers (4.9%) only with its paid press showcase prior to its official release.
