‘Demon Slayer’ tops 3 mln admissions with 800,000 weekend moviegoers

SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Japanese animated film “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” (hereafter "Infinity Castle) drew 800,000 viewers over the weekend, surpassing 3 million in cumulative admissions.

 

According to the Korean Film Council’s box-office database on Monday, the film attracted 800,000 viewers from Friday to Sunday, accounting for a 60.3 percent revenue share. Its total admissions reached 3.15 million.

 

Released on Aug. 22, “Infinity Castle” topped the 3 million mark in just 10 days, outpacing the record set by “My Daughter Is A Zombie,” the year’s biggest hit starring Cho Jung-seok, which took 11 days to reach the milestone.

 

The weekend box office’s No. 2 spot went to “My Daughter Is A Zombie” with about 201,000 viewers (13.4 percent). Brad Pitt’s racing film “F1: The Movie,” which opened June 25, ranked third with 151,000 admissions (10.8 percent).

 

Chinese romance film “First Love Ending,” which opened Aug. 27, placed fourth with 40,000 viewers (2.7 percent), followed by Japanese horror film “About a Certain Place in the Kinki Region” with 36,000 (2.6 percent).

 

As of 9 a.m. Monday, “Infinity Castle” also led advance booking with a 49.0 percent share, or about 134,000 tickets reserved.

 

Upcoming thriller “Murderer Report,” starring Cho Yeo-jeong and Jung Sung-il, ranked second in presales at 8.7 percent (23,000 tickets), followed by director Yeon Sang-ho’s mystery film “Face” (6.5 percent; 17,000 tickets, opening Sept. 11) and Park Chan-wook’s new release “No Other Choice" (4.6 percent; 12,000 tickets, opening Sept. 24).
