SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Yonhap) -- The new romantic comedy drama No Gain No Love, starring Shin Min-a and Kim Young-dae, has kicked off with ratings in the 3% range.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 27th, the first episode of the TVING original series No Gain No Love, which aired on tvN the previous day, recorded a 3.7% viewership rating. This is comparable to the 3.9% rating achieved by the first episode of Destined With You, which aired in the same time slot a week prior.
The premiere begins with the main character Son Hae-young (played by Shin Min-a), who cannot stand losing in any situation, attending the wedding of a former colleague with whom she had a secret office romance that ended poorly.
During the wedding, Son Hae-young discovers that her ex-boyfriend had been two-timing her before their breakup. Feeling wronged, she demands her congratulatory money back, only for the ex to dismissively promise to return it when she gets married.
Meanwhile, Son Hae-young feels disadvantaged upon hearing from a coworker that getting married could improve her chances of promotion due to the company's pro-marriage policies.
In a fit of frustration, she drinks in front of her usual convenience store and impulsively asks Kim Ji-wook (played by Kim Young-dae), a part-time worker there and someone she usually bickers with, to "become her husband."
The first episode quickly establishes Son Hae-young's situation, using humor to highlight the personalities of the main characters.
Shin Min-a charmingly portrays the assertive and determined Son Hae-young, while Kim Young-dae captivates as the kind-hearted and considerate Kim Ji-wook, who struggles with repeated job rejections.
No Gain No Love is a TVING original series that airs on tvN every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM, and is also available for streaming on TVING.
