SEOUL October 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean composer Kim Shin won the first prize at the Concours De Geneve under the Composition segment.
According to the committee of the “76th Concours De Geneve” on October 26 (Switzerland time), South Korean composer Kim Shin was awarded with the first prize with his composition “The Song of Oneiroi” under the segment of Composition.
Second prize was given to the Japanese composer Yuki Nakahashi, and the third prize was awarded to a Hungarian composer Armin Cservenak.
For the final round, competitors were asked to compose pieces for sextet vocal ensemble, which was later performed by Neue Vocal Solisten. Composer Kim Shin’s unique way of using the microphone to create various projection with all of the surroundings taken into consideration was highly appreciated.
Composer Kim Shin graduated Korea National University of Arts under composition major, and currently enrolled in master’s degree in Royal Academy of Music under composition major.
Kim Shin won the “Joongang Music Concours,” “Seil Korean Art Song Competition” under composition, “Agape International Church Composition Competition & Festival” and more, also he won grand prize at the “2022 George Enscu International Competition” under the composition of symphony.
“76th Concours De Geneve” which South Korean composer Kim Shin won the first prize in is an internationally well known music competition which started in 1939. Composition segment of the competition happens once every two years periodically and piano, clarinet, flute, cello, viola, quartet, and percussion gets circulates every year.
Previous winner of the Concours De Geneve consists of Cellist Chung Myung-hwa in 1971, Cho Kwang-ho in 2013, pianist Moon Ji-young in 2014, composer Choi Jae-hyuk in 2017 and Percussionist Park Hye-ji in 2019 and more.
