SEOUL, Apr. 1 (Yonhap) – The blockbuster movie “Morbius,” which depicts the foundation of a new anti-hero, started as No. 1 on the latest daily box office.
According to the data from the Korean Film Council(KOFIC) on Apr. 1, “Morbius,” which attracted 68,000 people(63.1% of sales) on Mar. 30, the first day of its release, and 38,000 people(53.6%) on the second day, topped the box office.
“Morbius” is the first live action film starring Dr. Morbius, who appears as an enemy of the superhero Spider-Man. The biochemist Morbius, who suffered from a rare blood disease, gains power to both save and destroy the world with a medicine made of vampire bats.
“Vanishing,” a crime film in collaboration of Korea and France, was released on the same day and ranked No. 3 on the box office, but the number of daily audiences only reached 7,000 and 5,000.
The Japanese film "Signal The Movie Cold Case Investigation Unit," based on the Korean drama, and the new movie "Madres paralelas," directed by Pedro Almodóvar, representing Spain, were also released on Mar. 31 and entered the Top 10, but the number of viewers is in the range of 1,000.
The live ticket sales for “Morbius” was 38.8%(48,000 people) on Friday morning, ranking the first place. It is followed by the action film “Ambulance,” which is produced by director Michael Bay and scheduled to be released next week, recording 7.1%(8,000 people) of ticket sales.
