SEOUL, April 23 (Yonhap) -- The mystery thriller, "Recalled," starring actress Seo Yea-ji and actor Kim Kang-woo, ranked the top of the box office, beating "Seobok", which stars actors Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum.
According to the Korean Film Council's Korea Box-office Information System (KOBIS), "Recalled" topped the box office with 18,000 people (28% of sales share) on the first day of its release and 15,000 people (27.3%) on the second day.
"Recalled" is a mystery thriller in which Su-jin, played by actress Seo Yea-ji, a woman who sees the future in a vision after losing her memory in an accident, faces the reality of her husband (Kim Kang-woo), by putting pieces of her memory together.
Director Lee Yong-ju's new film, "Seobok," which was released a week earlier than "Recalled," stepped down and ranked second of the box office. Since "Seobok"'s release on the 15th, it has accumulated 270,000 viewers.
"Judas and the Black Messiah," which tells the true story of Fred Hampton, the leader of the Black Panther Party, was released on the 22nd and ranked 10th place. Actor Daniel Kaluuya, who played Fred Hampton, is known to be a strong candidate for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The nominees for The Academy Awards on the 26th, "Minari" and "Nomadland" are also in the top 10 movies of the box office. Actor Anthony Hopkins's "The Father" and "Better Days," which was re-released as The Academy Award for Best International Feature Film nominee, are also currently being screened.
Actress Seo Yea-ji has recently been accused of school bullying, mistreating staff and falsifying her educational background.
