‘Decision to Leave’ leads BAFTA nominations

SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) – Director Park Chan-wook’s romance suspense film “Decision to Leave” has been longlisted for 4 different categories in the 2023 EE BAFTA Film Awards.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), also known as the British Academy Awards, announced the longlist for the upcoming award ceremony on Friday.

A total of 16 films made the longlist for the Best Film Award, along with 10 films each nominated for Film Not in English Language, Original Screenplay, and Editing categories.

Director Park, who received his first award in 2018 at the BAFTA for the Film Not in English Language category with his 2016 film “The Handmaiden,” made the longlist for his second award.

The mega-hit South Korean film “Parasite,” directed by Bong Jun-ho, received two awards – Film Not in English Language and Original Screenplay – in 2020 after being longlisted for 4 different categories – Best Film, Director, Film Not in English Language, and Original Screenplay.

In the 2021 BAFTA, “Minari,” a Korean-American drama film directed by Lee Isaac Chung, was longlisted for 6 different categories, including Film Not in English Language, Director, and Supporting Actor categories. A South Korean veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung received the Best Supporting Actress award as the first Korean award winner.

The shortlist for the 2023 BAFTA will be unveiled on Jan. 19, and the award ceremony will be held on Feb. 19 at the South Bank Center’s Royal Festival Hall in London.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), found in 1947, is the most renowned English-American film award that gives well-deserved recognition to the very best work in British and international film, games, and television.

Meanwhile, “Decision to Leave” has also been included on the shortlist for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, along with Best Picture (Non-English Language) for the Golden Globe Awards and this year’s Critics Choice Awards.
