Seoul Art Center to host 'Opera Gala' starting on October 23

SEOUL October 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean opera singers are filling up the Seoul Art Center with miraculous performances.

Seoul art center will be showcasing “Seoul Art Center Opera Gala” starting on October 21 until 23 featuring famous scenes from greatly appreciated opera “Aria,” addressed the Seoul Art Center on Tuesday.

Over 24 various opera artists, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Noi opera chorus, and more teams will be participating at the festival of opera being held for 3 days.

On the day of opening, October 21, Georges Bizet’s opera, “Carmen,” Giacomo Puccini’s
“La Boheme,” “Turandot,” Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” and more significant pieces will be showcased. World well known soprano singer Seo Sun-young, Hwang Su-mi, mezzo soprano Kim Jung-mi, tenor, Kim Woo-kyung, and total of 7 singers will be taking the stage along the lead of conductor Toshiyuki Kamioka and the KBS Symphony Orchestra and Noi opera Chorus.

On the second day which will be showcasing the high lights of the Operas by Mozart, “Die Zauberflöte,” Don Giovanni’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and more whimsical and satirical pieces by Mozart will be played. German opera conductor Gerd Herklotz will collaborate with Korean Chamber Orchestra.

Starting with baritone singer known throughout the world by winning the “Bayreuther Festspiele” Samuel Youn, soprano singer Hwang Su-mi, Hong Joo-young, tenor Kim Woo-kyung and overall 14 singers will take the stage.

On the final day of the special gala, Giacomo Puccini’s Act 2- “Vissi d’arte, Vissi D’amore,” Giuseppe Verdi’s entire third act of Rigoletto will be performed. Stage director Jung Sun-yong will work with the effects for the stage. Also very rarely performed piece by Pietro Mascagni’s “Montserrat Caballe” will be performed.

Tenor Baek Seong-jong, who performed on the stage of “Montserrat Caballe” at the royal opera house of London will take the stage, and soprano singer Seo Sun-young, Kang Hye-jung, mezzo soprano singer Son Jin-hee, baritone singer Samuel Youn and overall 11 different singers will take the stage with director Toshiyuki Kamioka and the KBS Symphony Orchestra and Noi opera Chorus
