SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- A movie featuring K-pop is under production aiming for the global market. Yoon Je-kyoon, director of hit movies of 10 million audiences, “Haeundae” (2009) and “Ode to My Father” (2014), has teamed up with Lynda Obst, Hollywood producer of “Interstella.”
CJ ENM (Entertainment) announced that they will be joining the “K-Pop: Lost in America” (working title) project Tuesday.
“The purpose of the project is to aid competent Korean producers’ overseas expansions and to increase the value of K-contents by combining the raised interest towards Korean producers after ‘Parasite’’s winning of four Academy Awards, and K-pop which is globally gaining popularity.
Obst is a renowned Hollywood producer and winner of the Oscar, KBO Golden Glove and Emmy Awards for having led various productions to success such as “Interstella” (2014), “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), “One Fine Day” (1996), “Contact” (1997), and series, “Hot in Cleveland” and “Helix.”
She has great affection for Korean cultures, especially for K-pop and has shown her ambition of making the upcoming project a success no matter what, according to CJ ENM.
Director Yoon is planning to cast a number of iconic K-stars, Hollywood and Pop stars to make the film satisfactory to all the audiences around the world.
The film is kicking off its pre-production starting with an audition for starring actors who will take the roles of a boy band.
CJ ENM will carry out the collaboration with the global studio by using its experiences of global networking.
“We are expecting to able to deliver freshness with this film reflecting the multiculturalism trend and the world’s attention to K-pop and K-contents. We will strive to produce a highly-completed film that can satisfy the audiences,” said CJ ENM.
