SEOUL, August 4 (Yonhap) -- Park Bo-gyoon, minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said “Ultimately, contents is the most important,” as he mentioned ENA drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” which overcame channel’s low awareness and gained excessive popularity, as an example.
Minister Park said, “Field of K-contents is expanding through global OTT” during media contents and Over-the-top (OTT) industry meeting conducted at Seoul office of Korea Copyright Protection division.
Attendees of the meeting presented different ideas for the mutual growth of K-contents and OTT.
They requested ▲ expand support for planning development and production of OTT specialized contents ▲ support for domestic OTT to expand overseas ▲ expand policy finance to secure content intellectual property (IP) ▲ expand support for content reproduction for oversea expansion ▲ introduce OTT content self-rating system.
Minister Park promised for policy support to nurture talents along with the support for planning development, production, and overseas expansion and to expand production.
He also mentioned to expand policy fund for securing content IP along with the production support of 11.6 billion won for OTT specialized contents and 40 billion won for drama fund
He also said that benefits for producers will increase by applying the tax credit for OTT content production beginning next year, and that he will try to introduce the self-rating system as soon as there is no disagreement on the current bill.
