SEOUL, December 25 (Yonhap) -- The sequel to "Avatar," "Avatar: The Way of Water" (Avatar 2), surpassed five million viewers on Christmas Day, December 25.

Import and film distribution company Walt Disney Company Korea mentioned that "Avatar 2" has recorded 5,374,000 audience as of 7 a.m. on the same day, the 12th day of its release, continuing to top the box office.

The movie surpassed 4 million viewers on the previous day, and it surpassed 5 million viewers in just 24 hours.

"Avatar 2" is attracting viewers faster than the previous "Avatar." "Avatar" exceeded 5 million audience on the 15th day of its release in 2009 in Korea.

However, it is slower than the movie "The Roundup," starring Ma Dong-seok as the main character, which has attracted the most audience this year. 'The Round Up" exceeded 5 million audience on its tenth day of release.

Avatar 2 depicts the journey and battle of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) who seek a new place to survive with their children. Like the prequel, James Cameron directed.

The crew and the cast of "Avatar 2" expressed gratitude through their official social media, "We are really touched by the amazing support of Korean fans, We hope for continued love."
