[Movie Review] 'The Glorious My Revenge' provides question to audience on what true revenge is

SEOUL March 23 (Yonhap) -- Protagonist Ryoo Yi-jae acted by actor Heo Jun-seok loses not only his son due to hit and run but also left by his wife becomes left alone in this world. He gets transferred to a rural area after failing to catch the killer who took his son’s life.

Yi-jae tries to re build his life at the place where he gets transferred to, however the killer protagonist has been looking for Im Hak-chon, acted by Lee Young-suk shows up in front of Yi-jae. Throughout the short conversation where Im Hak-chon explains how everything was an accident, Yi-jae gets furious.

The movie “The Glorious My Revenge” can be segmented among revenge series which are being receiving spot lights in recent days. Although in the beginning, the movie depicts a scenario of bloody revenge, however the story unfolds in a very different manner.

Despite of Hak-chon being fully intact and well, Yi-jae’s manages to successfully pull his revenge on him. Moreover, Yi-jae finally moves on forward and returns back to his normal life. That is the reason why the title of the movie withholds the word “Glorious.”

Director Lim Sung-woon addressed throughout the press conference held on March 22 and addressed, “I came across the idea of a male who struggles to get out of the current situation he was in, and I started to wonder whether he could make it back on his feet.”

Director Lim answered to the question of the movie taking a different route in showcasing the revenge, as “I also started off with a bloody revenge, however as I progressed throughout the movie, I have decided to provide Yi-jae with a bright future ahead of him,” adding “Protagonists who seek revenge are the ones being incarcerated in their past, therefore in order to find peace one needs to forgive.”

Moreover, director stated “I wanted to gift Yi-jae with positive future.”

Throughout the movie, viewers will be able to whiteness unique style of Lee Young-suk’s acting which he has not showcased on stages on various play, dramas and movies. Starting with his debut movie in 2003 “My teacher, Mr. Kim,” participated in various productions in total of 120 of movies and dramas such as “Mother,” “A resistance,” “My Mister,” “Prison Playbook” and more.

“When I first read through the scenario I had wondered why I was casted for such role, because the role I received was a very evil character, often times I use to act out various characters such as grandfather like figure, or a security guards. Through the upcoming movie I have learned how one can become very dark with motif of seeking revenge.” addressed actor Lee Young-suk.

Although the movie “The Glorious My Revenge” finished its production 2 years ago, however due to wide spread of Covid 19 the movie was postponed with its premiere date. The movie managed to plow through the production despite of the rough condition to engage in filming, and it took even longer for the movie to premiere therefore a lot of actors and actresses showcased their excitement.

“Since it took a long time for the movie to premiere, I hope a lot of people will enjoy the movie.” addressed actress Nam Bo-ra who acted out single mother character Um So-yeon.

Moreover actor Heo joon-seok who acted out Yi-jae addressed “I am thankful for the fact that the movie I have worked on 2 years ago will finally premiere in movie theaters.”
