'Hansan: Rising Dragon' tops S.Korean box office during weekend

SEOUL, August 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean movie about admiral Yi’s battle of Hansan island “Hansan: Rising Dragon” topped Korean box office on its first weekend of its premier.

According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council, throughout the weekend, from July 29 to July 31, “Hansan: Rising Dragon” attracted over 1.63 million people and topped Korean box office. The movie successfully guarded its top position, for five consecutive days after its premier in July 27. Up until July 31, “Hansan: Rising Dragon” attracted over 2.27 million audiences.

Director Choi Dong-hoon’s block buster movie “Alienoid” moved down to fourth on Korean box office after attracting over 187 thousand people throughout the weekend. Whereas the animation movie “Minions 2” which premiered on the same day as “Alienoid” guarded its position after attracting over 340 thousand people.

“Top Gun: Maverick” which placed third in Korean box office showed its fame by attracting over 296 thousand people during the weekend despite it premiered six weeks ago. Moreover, the animation movie “Pororo: Dragon Castle Adventure” placed fifth on the list by attracting 129 thousand people during the weekend.

“Emergency Declaration” starring Lee Byung-hun, Song kang-ho, Jeon Do-yeon and more premiering on Wednesday which attracted over 4 thousand people on the day of its press conference, landed on ninth on Korean box office by recording 0.2 percent on sales share.
