SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean game developer Krafton announced Friday that it will acquire U.S. video game developer "Unknown Worlds."

Krafton will acquire a 100% stake for about 500 million dollars (around 585.8 billion won), and can implement an "earn-out" strategy where it receives an additional 250 million dollars (292.9 billion won) depending on the company's future performances.

Unknown Worlds, which becomes the first company to be acquired since Krafton's listing in August, was founded in the U.S. in 2001 and introduced creative PC and console games such as Half-Life MOD, Natural Selection Series, and Subnotica.

Unknown Worlds will be developed into various PC and console games as Krafton's sixth independent studio. After the acquisition, Unknown Worlds' management and organizational structure will remain the same.

"The latest acquisition plan will help Krafton strengthen its competitiveness of global game production," Kim Chang-han, CEO of Krafton, said. "We plan to move forward together toward a common goal of creating unique experiences for global audiences."
