GANGNEUNG, Dec. 30 (Yonhap) – A Eurasian spoonbill, living alone apart from the flock, is recently seen, staying in Namdae-cheon, Gangneung, for more than 10 days.
Eurasian spoonbills originally spend winter mainly in the interior wetlands, such as the west and south coast of Korea and Upo Wetlands in Gyeongsangnam-do.
This Eurasian spoonbill, which appeared alone in Gangneung, mingles with similar egrets and stands with the flock of Grey Herons.
At the river mouth of Namdae-cheon, a Ruddy shelduck lives alone.
Ruddy shelducks live in small flocks of 5 to 6 up to large flocks ranging from 200 to 300, but these ducks rest or feed in the flock of Eurasian teals.
A mute swan, which usually lives in flocks, was found swimming alone in Gangneung at the end of October.
Isn’t it an irony that people consider the scene beautiful, in which birds feel lonely and have difficulties without a flock, just like humans do?
