SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- "I wanted to sing retro style ballad that will bring out nostalgic mood back in 2000s. I was a singer of that period, and I like musics produced in that year."
Singer, who led a ballad sensation in the mid-to-late 2000s as a member of boy group SG Wannabe, is returning with his first mini album "Suddenly."
Kim Yong-jun, in an interview with Yonhap News on Thursday, said, "The 2000s were basically just my youth," adding, "It was such a happy and grateful time. There were a lot of good ballad songs at that time."
The new album "Suddenly" is composed of six autumn-mood songs, including the title song "How can I forget you."
Composers Jo Young-soo and Ahn Young-min, who have been working together since SG Wannabe, participated in the production of the album.
Kim said, "When the two of them were rookie composers, we were also rookie. We have special relation of growing up together," adding, "I felt really comfortable when recording."
As SG Wannabe, Yongjun Kim gained great popularity with his debut song "Timeless" released in 2004.
He debuted as solo after 18 years in last Jan. with his first single "Beautiful."
"It was not like I purposely did not do solo activities, but somehow 18 years have passed already. I feel sorry to those who have been waiting for me for a long time. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to repay with music."
He said, "I became close with Yoo Yeon-seok because my distant acquaintance is college of Yoo. He seems to be worried (after the guest release)," adding, "I told him to not overthink since he is good at singing and talks well."
