SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- The 19th Music in PyeongChang will be held from July 2 to July 23 in Pyeongchang Alpensia and Gangwon province.
This music festival, with the theme of “MASK” will be held with 18 main concerts, 4 special concerts, and 5 annual series performances over 22 days, the longest in its history, making it the largest ever.
Concerts from Donghae, Pyeongchang, Gangneung, Chuncheon, and Jeongseon, as well as chamber music and orchestra academy programs are scheduled.
At the opening performance on Saturday, pianist Son Yeol-eum, who has been the music director of the festival for 5 years, performed a song by the recently deceased composers Frederic Rzewski and George Crumb along with cello Kim Doo-min and flute Jo Sung-hyun.
"Thanks to the mask, we were able to protect and connect with each other, and this was the heart of us as we prepared for the festival." Son Yeol-eum said, at a press conference held on June 16. “At the same time, masks also have the meaning of a persona. I hope that it will become a music festival where musicians tell their stories.”
