SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Yonhap) -- TV Chosun’s smash-hit trot competition show “Mr. Trot 2” has wrapped up with an unprecedentedly high average nationwide rating in the range of 24 percent.

The finale of this singing competition show, aired at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, scored an all-time high rating of 24.0 percent.

The final episode, which was a live broadcast, captured the fierce competition between seven finalists who were going up against one another to win the title of “Jin,” also dubbed the king of trot, as well as their lifetime song.

Singer Ahn Sung-hoon eventually wore the crown by singing Patty Kim’s “You, My Friend.” Ahn scored a total of 1,288 master points along with 700 online points from his fans and 1,500 points gathered from real-time text messages also sent from his fans, which rounded up to a total of whooping 3,488 points.

During the award ceremony, Ahn said, “I will never stop trying to become a singer who can both give comfort and joy with what I have got.”

Park Ji-hyeon won the title of “Seon,” the second place, by receiving a total of 2,929.81 points by singing Na Hoon-ah’s “Weeds” on the final stage. Jin Hae-sung was named “Mi,” or the third, by accumulating a total of 2,777.72 points by singing Lee Jung-ok’s “Hiding Wind Sound” in his own way.

The show, which was the local cable channel TV Chosun’s fourth project, gathered nationwide attention and created a fandom as solid as it was for “Miss Trot 1” and “Mr. Trot 1.” Nevertheless, it undeniably did not go as viral as it did in the previous projects as it had to go up against MBN’s trot audition show “Glowing Trotmen,” helmed by producer Seo Hye-jin who is known as the original producer for “Miss Trot” and “Mr. Trot.”

“Glowing Trotmen” was the first show that was produced by Seo after she left TV Chosun and set up an independent production house.
