SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- "I haven't done my music based on high-sounding mind that I will comfort someone but I am happiest when I hear that listeners are 'comforted'" (Full-time employee Choi-Inyeong)
Female duo Sweden Laundry's songs are often known as 'healing genre' among music fans. This means that listeners can be comforted by listening to songs with simple melodies and calm emotions.
It has been ten full years since Sweden Laundry who wanted to heal someone's mind started their music career.
In a written interview with Yonhap news Agency on the 6th, Wang Se-Yun, the owner of Sweden Laundry, says "It's been 10 years since I've been making songs as usual. I want to thank everyone who helped me continue my music career"
Two members of the Sweden Laundry are friends of the same age, born in 1990. Those two members who introduce themselves as 'laundry owner' and 'full-time employee' studied at a university in Daegu and have dreamed of being a musician.
Since their debut with their single album 'Happy Birthday Waltz' in 2012, they have been loved with songs such as 'Time We Had Been', 'Voice', 'Stuffy Dawn', and 'Two Hands, To You'.
According to Wang, one word that could express the music of Sweden Laundry is "Diary" and she explains that they talk about calm daily life as well as feelings of special moments.
"The best thing I did in the past 10 years as a musician was to have a friendly relationship with Choi-Inyoung," she said, being proud of their strong bond with each other.
Choi says, "The lyrics of our songs are so good," and she adds that "I hope our songs will help listeners to be comforted, confiding both of their burdensome or happy moments in life".
Looking back on the time passed, Sweden laundry also had a 'crisis' moment.
Shortly after the release of their mini album 'Moment' in 2014, Choi-Inyoung had a hard time for long because her voice suddenly did not come out. In addition to treatment and counseling, she has used many ways to cure her voice but it hardly improved.
Recalling those days, Choi says that "Those days when my voice did not come out was a crisis of my music career" and confessed that "I thought I had disappointed fans who came to see my performance".
It was the fans of Sweden Laundry who raise the duo up, who must have been exhausted than anyone else.
Wang and Choi both agrees that "We could stand up again thanks to our fans who have been curious about our next album and love our music. It is more than the word motivation itself when our fans, with their affectionate glance, say that they would always wait spending hard time together".
Ten years of cheering up and enduring hard times together. The duo recently got a 10th anniversary gift.
It was through the project 'My Sweden Laundry', in which other singers remake the songs of Sweden Laundry's representative songs. Choi-Yuree, Song-Hayoung from the k-pop girl group Fromise_9, Jeon-Keonho, Boramiyu and et cetera participated this projet to shed a new light on their music.
Wang says that "Every time our album is released, it feels like we are having a 'surprise present'. There are many good songs of our and we always welcome artists who want to participate in the project".
Choi also says, "Including vocalist casting and song arrangement, the process is not always easy, but we have a lot of songs to remake".
Sweden Laundry will continue making their music sincerely.
Wang hopes that "We want to sing stories about what we experience and ponder", and Choi says that "Our goal is to perform music that is naturally made within us".
When asked about the plan this year, Wang says "We do not have any planned concert schedule yet, unfortunatley" and adds that "I guess we will release a new album and have a concert soon when the chilly wind blows and the weather gets cold".
"The music of Sweden Laundry? We hope to exist in a shape that we each remember of ourselves. It could be colorful, or it could be something like a hut. Above all, we hope our music could always be a shelter for people who would like to rest". (Choi-Inyeong)
