SNSD's Sunny leaves SM

SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- Sunny of K-pop girl group Girls' Generation (SNSD) is leaving her cradle agency SM Entertainment after 16 years of being under its wing, the management firm said on Tuesday.

"Sunny's exclusive contract with our company has come to an end," SM Entertainment said in a statement.

The singer also mentioned her contract's termination on her Instagram on the same day. She wrote, "Now, I gather courage to see myself from a different perspective in a new environment."

She expressed her gratitude to SM Entertainment, which provided significant support for her to debut as Girls' Generation's Sunny when she was 19 years old. She also thanked all the staff members with whom she shared joys and sorrows during her 16 years of entertainment activities.

Debuting as a member of Girls' Generation in 2007, Sunny received immense love with hit songs such as "Gee," "Genie," and "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)."

Last year, she also participated in the release of Girls' Generation's 15th-anniversary album, "The ReVe Festival - Forever."

Sunny is also known as the niece of former SM Entertainment executive producer Lee Soo-man.
