MAMAMOO’s Solar to comeback solo… says “100% satisfied with album”

SEOUL, March 16 (Yonhap) -- MAMAMOO’s leader Solar (birth name: Kim Yong-sun), who once revealed her bald look to show honesty, is back flowing her 6-meter long hair.

The artist is making a solo comeback with the new album “容: FACE," in a year and 11 months since the single “SPIT IT OUT."

Ahead of her first mini-album release, Solar said in a press conference, “I am 100% satisfied with the album as I gave it my best shot.”

The album title came from the Chinese character '容' of her birth name Kim Yong-sun. Solar explained that it is a letter she liked since she was young, and it also holds the meaning that everyone has a different face and that each person is precious in a way they live their own meaningful life.

"I think the expression of sadness, joy, loneliness on someone’s face shows the path they took. I wanted to show you a variety of colors of music by comparing the path I have walked with various faces." (Laughs)

The title song “HONEY” is fancy at first glance but is a track that boosts Solar’s bright and positive cham.

The song charmingly expresses how people sweetly seduce others as honeybees bring honey to the queen bee.

The artist said, “I had many concerns on what to choose as the title song,” adding, “I even did a vote in our company because I couldn't choose ‘Honey’ over another song. The result was an overwhelming victory for ‘Honey.’”

Solar chose “HONEY” as the most difficult song among the five tracks in the album.

The artist, who had previously written her songs, actively participated in the overall work of this album.

The self-written song “Big Booty” expressed the desire for a bigger hip adorably. The singer showed off her writing and composition skills in “chap chap,” which was written with lyrics that suddenly came to her mind.

Solar emphasized, “It is not an exaggeration to say we put in RBW’s (agency) soul into the album,” adding. “From the beginning of the album to now, everyone has put in their heart and soul into ‘容 : FACE.’”

“I plan to engage in activities for a week with this solo album, and it will be short but strong,” adding, “I hope many people can feel better, be healed, and receive comfort.”

Solar, who marks her 9th year of debut this year, is meeting fans in various fields other than music.

The artist is currently running a YouTube channel “Solarsido,” and is uploading videos once or twice every week. The channel covers various topics such as singing, dancing, working out, mukbang, and studying English, and Solar is known to never have broken a promised date to her fans.

Solar explained, “The secret to my popularity is consistency,” adding, “I want to continue to show you different sides of myself.”

Solar’s goal is to do her best this year without regret.

“I want to upgrade myself more this year. As a Mamamoo member, as Solar the solo artist, and as the individual Kim Yong-sun, I won’t miss a thing and try my best (laughs),” said Solar.
