SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min (29, Tottenham Hotspur) emphasized his team's determination, saying, "Everyone should be a warrior to return to the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season."

On the Tottenham Hotspur F.C.'s website, Son Heung-min said in an interview, "We have nine games left with the cup final (Carabao Cup) and we have to be ready, we have to be warriors, that's very important for the rest of the season."

Tottenham is ranked sixth in the English Premier League this season and only the top four will qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

With eight league matches remaining, Tottenham (49 points) and West Ham (52 points) are only three points apart. However, Everton (47points), who finished one less game, is only five points apart from West Ham.

Regarding this situation, Son Heung-min said, "I'm a really positive guy, we're three points behind the top four."

"Let's be honest, it would have been better if we'd won the points against Newcastle, but we didn't and that's really sad," he added.

Tottenham ended the 30th round with a tie score of 2:2 against Newcastle United on the 4th. Son Heung-min, who hurt his hamstring in the game against Arsenal last month, returned to the field during the second half of the match against Newcastle.

Tottenham were in eight place when they played until the 30th round of the 2019-2020 season, and Chelsea, who were in fourth place was 9 points ahead.

Son Heung-min, who scored 18 goals in the official match, including 13 in the Premier League this season, also looked at the current situation with hope, saying, "We are in a slightly better position than last season."

"We're three points off the top four, it's tight and we all want to play in the Champions League next season, that's our aim, that's the Club's aim, the fan's aim as well. That's all we want. We're all focused on that and we will try as hard as possible to get there," Son Heung-min said.

Tottenham will play against Manchester United, who are in second-place and has been undefeated (5 wins and 5 draws) in 10 recent league matches at 12:30 a.m. (KST) on the 12th.
