SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group Weeekly has been selected as the first artist of Apple Music's "Up Next Korea" program, which aims to introduce new Korean artists to the world.

"Up Next" is a program where Apple Music editors around the world discover a team of new artists who are notable for each major country. The program introduces the team every month and helps them grow musically, according to Apple Music on Friday.

"It is an honor to be selected as the first artists of 'Up Next Korea,'" Weekly said through their agency Play M Entertainment. "We will deliver enjoyable energy to K-pop fans around the world."

The seven member girl group debuted last June and has been considered a notable rookie girl group within the K-pop scene for their bubbly and lively charm.

In particular, the title track of Weekly's third mini album "We Play," which was released in March, "After School," was ranked at the top of Spotify's "Viral 50" chart, showing a surprising record.

Weeekly released its fourth mini-album "Play Game: Holiday," which includes the group's summer song "Holiday Party," on Aug. 4 and have started its comeback activities.
