SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Yonhap) -- "Even the hottest actors face reality like 'Desperate Mr.X.' That is why I empathized with this role. It was a story that can be done at my age."

Actor Kwon Sang-woo once again featured in comedy film that accentuates his color. The actor turned into Mr. X and showed reality of funny yet sad mid-age man who is in the downhill of his life, facing voluntary retirement, crash of stocks, and soaring house prices.

Kwon Sang-woo and actress Im Se-mi, who plays as his wife Mi-jin in the movie, met with Yonhap News Agency at one cafe in Seoul on Wednesday.

Movie "Desperate Mr. X" is about Mr. X, who graduated from prestigious college and once was senior director at a major company, struggling to survive at startup after being fired from the old company.

Kwon managed to naturally act out getting on his knees in front of his boss, singing and dacing at an interview for re-employment. He humorously depicted crushing news like partial hairloss to medomalacophobia.

He said, "Many have told me that my acting skills have improved the most since the debut. To be honest, I have been just doing the same thing consistently, but the time has come to hear nice things as my efforts continued to pile up."

He also said, "I think it is natural for actors to get ugly when doing a work.It is stupid act of an actor to not express more considering their image. It is not like I have not done cool characters. I did everything I can since I was confident that I will be able to show different sides of me in different films."

Mr.X, who looses money after getting his hands on stocks and coins and who wishes to win village housing lottery, depicts a life of ordinary citizen. When asked were these crises not relatable to a top star, the actor said he has experienced similar crisis as he gets older as an actor.

He said, "In some ways, actors go through more crisis than workers," adding, "Best works may not come to me and once a film fails, fingers are pointed to me and I feel like I am at the edge of a precipice. Luxury brands who contacted me when I was popular no longer does"

"While there can be more fitting roles as I age, I feel like I am drifting apart from the center. I worry a lot about how I will accept and overcome those issues."

The actor showed his affection towards comedy, saying it is a "blessing" to meet works that can make audiences laugh and cry.

He was on several comedy films such as movies "My Tutor Friend" (2003), "The Accidental Detective" (2015),and "The Accidental Detective 2: In Action" (2018) and drama "Delayed Justice." As his works pile up, Some call it "Kwon Sang-woo style comedy."

"I happily accept that Actor Kwon Sang-woo can be one type of genre. Unconsciously I have the confidence that 'I can do these kinds of genres.' I feel joy when I hear good responses for expressing things that were not on the script."

Im Se-mi, who played wife of Mr. A,also said, "I realized that comedy was not about trying to make someone laugh,: adding, "I think comedy is making audiences feel 'those kinds of people do exist' by depicting stories that everyone most likely have experienced."

Im said, "I have drawn bigger picture to act out the wife I thought of," adding, "There have been many women-oriented films recently, so I hope crisis of woman and of a married couple are also dealt in 'Desperate Mr.X.'"
