SEOUL, Mar. 12 (Yonhap) – Gyeonggi Province Fire Services has announced on Sunday that it has appointed Wanyiwah (15) a Myanmar singer as a honorary ambassador.

Wanyiwah, a native of Myanmar's ethnic Karen people, came to Korea six years ago and was recognized as a refugee. She lost her parents and is taking care of her two younger brothers, and is currently in the first grade of Yongin Jungangyeodam High School.

On KBS's "Trot National Sports Festival," she made her name known as "Sangsanghwa," which she sang in a mournful and pure voice, depicting her father who passed away.

Wanyiwah said, "As a proud Gyeonggi Province resident living in Gyeonggi Province and attending school in Gyeonggi Province, it is a great honor to work as a fire department honorary ambassador," adding, "I will actively participate in promotional activities for the safety of Gyeonggi Province residents, foreign workers, and multicultural families."
