S.Korean movie 'Emergency Declaration' takes top of Korean box office

SEOUL, August 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean block buster movie about aviation terrorism “Emergency Declaration” is off to a strong start at the top of South Korean box office.

According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council on Thrusday, “Emergency Declaration” topped Korean box office by attracting over 336 thousand audiences on the day of its premier, on Wednesday.

Director Choi Dong-hoon’s block buster movie “Alienoid” which premiered on July 20, was placed sixth on the S.Korean box office after attracting around 10 thousand people on Wednesday.

Comparing the total number of audiences in between four of the summer South Korean block buster hitting the cinema, third movie to premier out of four, “Emergency Declaration” attracted more audiences than “Alienoid” 158 thousand people on the premier date, but was short compare to “Hansan: Rising Dragon” which attracted total of 386 thousand audiences on the premier date.

According to the reservation rate of August 4 at 8 a.m. “Emergency Declaration”33.7 percent was leading “Hansan: Rising Dragon”32.5 percent by miniscule amount. “Alienoid” was ranked eighth among the movies after scoring 1.7 percent of reservation rate.

“Emergency Declaration” is a movie about aviation terrorism happening on a South Korean flight bound to Hawaii. Director Han Jae-rim took charge of the production and actors Song Kang-ho, Yim Si-wan, Lee Byung-hun, and more starred in the movie.
