SEOUL, Sep. 30 (Yonhap) -- Netflix Korean original series “Squid Game” is securing top spot on the streaming platform in the world for a week.
The series is still on the lead having beaten “Sex Education” and is renewing its record every day, according to Flix Patrol, VOD charts for streaming platforms around the world, Thursday.
Thanks to the production’s global success, the cast actors and actresses have gained a ‘worldwide’ popularity.
The most benefited was top model-actress Jung Ho-yeon who played as North Korean defector pickpocketer participant Kang Sae-byeok. After the series’ release, her Instagram follower has increased from about 400,000 to 8.3 million and she is receiving multiple love-calls from variety shows as well.
“Her fierce and captivating performance has made her the show’s breakout star, and we’re excited for her to take the Korean entertainment industry by storm,” said Quinci LeGardye according to US magazine, Marie Claire.

Instagram follower of Lee Yoo-mi who showed ‘womance’ with Jung as Ji-young have shown a sharp increase as well, from around 40,000 to 3.08 million. Her 12 years of experiences from playing supporting roles in various films have finally received global spotlight.
Instagram followers of Wi Ha-jun who played Hwang Joon-ho increased from about 700,000 to 3.76 million, Kim Joo-ryoung who gave an intense impression with Han Mi-nyeo from about 400 to 780,000 ad Heo Sung-tae who was the villain Deok-su from 10,000 to 640,000. The only foreign contestant Anupam Tripathi’s followers are about 1.26 million as well.
Although Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo don’t have social media accounts, their interview and past videos have become an issue on YouTube.
