SEOUL, Apr. 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actors Jo Byeong-gyu, Kim Se-jeong, Yoo Jun-sang, Um Hye-ran, and Ahn Suk-hwan have confirmed to star in the upcoming second season of the mega-hit mystery-action series “The Uncanny Counter,” which is scheduled to premiere in the second half of this year. "The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch" will hit the small screens as the local cable channel tvN's Saturday-Sunday series.
Based on the webtoon of the same name, the series features demon hunters, posing as workers in a noodle shop, going after evil spirits. The first season recorded an all-time highest viewing rate among OCN series by the finale scoring an average national viewing rate of 11 percent.
The cast of the first season have reprised their roles for the sequel: As in the first season, Jo will play the youngest demon hunter, while Yoo will star as the hunter with unfathomable physical strength. Kim Se-jeong, who recently garnered attention for her lead role in SBS’ rom-com series “Business Proposal,” will suit up as Do Ha-na as she did in the first season. Meanwhile, Yeom is set to star as Choo Mae-ok, the healer, and Ahn Suk-hwan will play the role of Choi Jang-mul, Korea’s very first demon hunter.
Additionally, veteran actors Jin Sun-kyu, Kang Ki-young, Kim Hieo-ra, and Yoo In-soo have confirmed to join the cast. Jin will suit up as the firefighter Joo Seok, while Kang and Kim have been slated to star as villains.
Producer Yoo Seon-dong, who was in charge of delivering the first season, will take the helm once again based on the script written by screenwriter Kim Sae-bom.
