SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean film “Rebound” directed by Jang Hang-jun has won a prestigious recognition in a European film festival, the film’s distributor said on Monday.

The 122-minute drama film received the Silver Mulberry Audience Award at the 25th Udine Far East Film Festival with an exceptionally high rating of 4.60 out of 5 points, according to film distributor Barunson E&A.

Sabrina Baracetti, the executive director of the festival, said Rebound is a compelling and detailed basketball film with comic and touching inserts that deeply resonate with the audience.

The film, co-starring Ahn Jae-hong, Lee Shin-young, and Jung Jin-woon, depicts the miraculous performance of a team that was considered the weakest in the national high school basketball tournament.

The film is based on the true story of the basketball team from Busan Central High School during the actual competition in 2012.

The Udine Far East Film Festival, held in Udine, a city in northern Italy, is the largest film festival in Europe that introduces Asian films. It awards the Audience Award to the film that receives the most votes from the audience among the competition section films.

Previously, several Korean films such as “1987” (2017), “Beasts Clawing at Straws” (2020), and “Miracle” (2021) have received this award.

This year, a total of 43 Asian films, including Rebound, were invited and presented at the festival.
