SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- The World Organization of the Scout Movement has named South Korean singer Kim Tae-yeon, 11, a new public relations ambassador for the 2023 SaManGuem World Scout Jamboree that will be in Korea.
The Organization appointed the budding singer as the new ambassador for this upcoming world-class youth camp by considering how the singer herself is similar in age to teenagers who will be participating the camp and that the city of Busan, where the event will be held, is her hometown.
Kim will be participating in the production of promotional contents suh as videos and posters of the camp and will also be visiting the event site.
The 11-year-old singer, also dubbed the Korean traditional music (gukak) prodigy, won the grand prize for the junior department at the Chnhyang Traditional Music Festival when she was eight years old.
Later, she appeared in TV Chosun’s music competition reality show “Miss Trot 2” and took fourth place as a 10-year-old singer.
“I was glad to hear that the 2023 World Scout Jamboree is to be held in my hometown, and I am now even happier to be named the new ambassador,” Kim said. “I wish to contribute to the successful hosting of the camp as a public relations ambassador.”
Kim Hyun-sook, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family and chairman of the Organizing Committee, said, “We have high expectations for the promotional campaigns and activities that will be carried out with Kim, the Korean traditional music prodigy, at the forefront,” adding, “We hope more people will pay attention to and participate in the World Scout Jamboree.”
SaManGeum World Scout Jamboree, one of the world’s largest youth camps, will be held from Aug. 1 to 12 at Samangeum Campground in Buan county, North Jeolla Province, with 50,00 participants from 170 countries worldwide.
