SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Yonhap) - Netflix, a global online video service (OTT), has announced on Tuesday that it held a barrier-free screening of the Korean science fiction film "JUNG_E."
Barrier-free means breaking physical and institutional barriers so that the underprivileged, such as the elderly and the disabled, can enjoy equal rights.
Major barrier-free functions for viewing content include audio screen commentary that voice all situations such as movements, facial expressions, costumes, backgrounds, and scenes for the blind, and subtitles for the deaf that text characters, lines, and sound information.
Netflix held a barrier-free theater screening the previous day at Lotte Cinema's Konkuk University entrance where you can watch "JUNG_E" with audio screen commentary and subtitles for the deaf.
Various members attended the event, including the blind and the hearing-impaired, teachers from special schools such as the Seoul National School for the Blind and the Seoul National School for the Deaf, and non-disabled audiences recruited through Netflix social media.
Netflix's barrier-free function introduction space was operated to shed light on how to use the barrier-free function, and before the screening, director Yeon Sang-ho of "JUNG_E," Kim Hyun-joo, and actor Ryu Kyung-soo also greeted the stage.
Kwon Soon-chul, a blind person who participated in the screen commentary inspection for this screening, said, "It is a meaningful event that actively reflected the opinions of screen commentators, and I hope this barrier-free screening will help more people sympathize with the need for barrier-free content."
Choi Ha-neul, a deaf person who inspected subtitles for the deaf, also said, "The barrier-free function of ‘JUNG_E’ not only improves understanding of the movie but also conveys delicate emotional lines."
