SEOUL, Sept. 25 (Yonhap) -- Actor Park Seo-joon promises that the second season of Gyeongseong Creature will offer even more thrilling action than its predecessor.

"The action sequences in Season 2 are much more elaborate. With a different setting and style, there's a lot more to see," Park said during a press event for the Netflix series held at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan District on the 25th.

Gyeongseong Creature is set to return on September 27, with its storyline shifting from 1945 Gyeongseong (modern-day Seoul) to 2024 Seoul. Park noted that as the series moves into the present day, he made efforts to alter his character's appearance, style, and even speech to reflect the change in era.

Co-star Han So-hee also shared her experience, revealing that she faced new challenges in this season. "It was my first time using a wire for stunts, and after spending so much time suspended in the air, I think my fear of heights has vanished," she joked. Her character, who has gained superhuman abilities, required faster and more precise movements, which she practiced extensively.

The first season of Gyeongseong Creature was set against the backdrop of Korea's liberation from Japanese occupation in 1945, with the storyline centered around monsters born from the Japanese military's human experiments. Han So-hee’s character, Yoon Chae-ok, searches for her missing mother, while Park Seo-joon’s character, Jang Tae-sang, is a prominent pawnshop owner.

In Season 2, Yoon Chae-ok remains unchanged in appearance, despite 79 years passing, due to the mysterious lifeform 'Najin' inhabiting her body. Park Seo-joon takes on the role of Jang Ho-jae, a character resembling Jang Tae-sang in many ways. Regarding the two characters’ connection, Park hinted at surprises but remained tight-lipped, stating, "I think viewers will enjoy seeing how I portray similar yet distinct characters."

Han So-hee described her approach to Season 2, focusing on Yoon Chae-ok's emotional endurance after living alone for nearly eight decades. She also briefly addressed her personal life, following public attention after Season 1 over her relationship with actor Ryu Jun-yeol, emphasizing that her private matters should not interfere with her professional work.

New cast members for Season 2 include Lee Moo-saeng as 'Captain Kuroko' and Bae Hyun-sung as 'Seung-jo.'

Gyeongseong Creature gained attention even before the release of its first season, with its focus on Japanese military human experiments. The series' international distribution via Netflix has sparked interest in how it will be received overseas, especially in Japan. Director Jeong Dong-yoon commented on the series’ theme, stating, "I wanted to tell a story that transcends time, from past to present, through the creatures. Despite the progress made over 79 years, there are still people who commit atrocities for personal gain."

Jeong added, "The pain depicted in this story isn't just ours. It’s important to think about those who caused that pain. Forgiveness and forgetting are different, and that’s something I want to share with people worldwide."

The 7-episode Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 will be available in full on September 27.
