SEOUL September 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean flutist Kim Yu-bin won the 71st ARD International Music Competition Munich held in Germany.
According to the agency MOC Production on Thursday, flutist Kim Yu-bin won the ARD International Music Competition Munich under flute segment after competing from August 29 to September 7.
ARD International Music Competition Munich has highest reputation among German competitions and Kim Yu-bin is the first Korean musician to have ever won the competition, announced agency Moc Production.
“Music Competition is a place where you get judged but I participated the competition with much more relaxed mindset as if I was practicing my piece. I really enjoyed all of my stages.” adding “I would love to pursuit the type of music without any regulations, spread my artistic wings.” stated flutist Kim Yu-bin throughout the interview conducted right after the competition ended.
ARD International Music Competition Munich is an international music competition held by German public broadcasting service ARD, every year they provide four different competitive segments however due to COVID-19 they have postponed the competition which was scheduled for 2020 for two consecutive years therefore 2022 ARD International Music Competition Munich featured segments of flute, piano, trombone and string quartet which was originally scheduled for 2020.
Within the flute segment total of 44 flutists from all over the world competed through first round and second round of the competition then went through semi-finals and finals where they performed a collaborative piece with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerschen Rundfunks. Following the grand prize winner Kim Yu-bin, Italian flutist Mario Bruno, and German flutist Leonie Virginia Bumuller took the stand on the podium as second and third place in from the competition.
In 2014 Kim Yu-bin won second place in “Le Concours de Geneve” which did not have the first prize winner and “Audiences award” simultaneously immediately followed by wining the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 2015.
Moreover, Kim Yu-bin was appointed as the principal flutist in Konzerthausorchester Belin in 2016 while he was 19 continued his career under the head conductor for life Christoph Eschenbach. Continuing on with his musical career, Kim Yu-bin has been actively participating in various music related activities throughout Europe including his performance as Honorary principal flutist of Berlin Philharmonic orchestra under Susanna Malkki’s and John Willam’s conduct.
Kim Yu-bin will be taking the stage in Lotte Concert Hall on February 5 in 2023 with Korean Chamber Orchestra and greet his fans in Korea.
