DAEJEON, Nov. 18 (Yonhap) -- Daejeon, well known for its famous bakeries, will host the "Daejeon Bakery Festival 2021" on Nov. 20 and 21 at the Daejeon Modern History Exhibition Hall, according to Daejeon Marketing Corporation on Thursday.
Visitors of the festival will have a chance to look at various breads and participate in "dalgona bbobgi," a Korean childhood game where people have to crack sugar candy into a particular shape. The winner of the game will also receive two million won in prize money.
At the Daejeon Bakery Festival 2021, people will be able to buy bread from 34 famous local bakeries such as Sungsimdang, Hare Hare, and Hans Bread at low prices. However, eating the bread at the venue will be prohibited in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Although the bread-eating contest with "mukbang," a portmanteau in Korean of "eating" and "broadcast," YouTuber Tzuyang was canceled, people will still be able to tour around famous bakery booths with the YouTuber and take pictures together.
Sungsimdang will pick 200 people on a first-come, first-served basis as participants for the "dalgona bbobgi" match and give two million won in prize money to the final winner.

People who visit the festival will also have the opportunity to make their own character cookies or chocolate cake with the help of students at Woosong College.
Various exhibitions and cultural performances, such as a busking performance, will also take place.
The proceeds from the event and remaining breads will be donated to social welfare facilities in Daejeon.
"We hope this Daejeon Bakery Festival will bring pleasure and comfort to people who have spent difficult times due to COVID-19," Daejeon Marketing Corporation President Go Kyung-gon said. "We will help revitalize the local economy by developing the bread festival into Daejeon's representative tourism content."
