SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- Girl band BLACKPINK is setting up its own island on the popular Nintendo Switch VR (Virtual Reality) game “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”
The group released their island “InYourArea” celebrating their 5th anniversary of debut (Aug. 8), announced YG Entertainment Friday.
“Animal Crossing” is a famous metaverse-based game. Players, through virtual characters, can decorate their village and island as wish and communicate with the neighbors.
“InYourArea” features various spaces related to BLACKPINK. The island consists of the group’s online concert “The Show”’s set, music video sets of their hit songs “Kill This Love,” “As If It’s Your Last,” “Ice Cream” and recording and dance studios in YG Entertainment.
Last year, the group had a fan meeting on ZEPETO, an AR (Augmented Reality) avatar service.
“Using the global girl group BLACKPINK’s brand value, we are aiming to create more contents to broaden our channels for communications with the global fans as well as to strategically collaborate with metaverse-based platforms,” said an official of YG.
