SEOUL, Sep. 6 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Ministry of National Defense (MND) has announced an official comment about the irrationality taking place in the military illustrated in a recent popular Netflix original series “D.P.”
The series depicting the episodes of D.P., a unit recovering deserters from the army, is based on webtoon a produced in 2014~2015. The series is gaining interest from the actual army as well for its realistic portrayal of the unjust behaviors including violence in the army grounds.
There has been reports of an army official saying that the series cannot be seen as a realistic depiction of the actual 2014 military camp. When asked whether the reported claim was an official statement from the army, Moon Hong-sik spokesperson of the ministry answered, "The lives in the barracks have been changing."
"MND and each camp have been gaining consistent effort into renovating the barracks to eradicate unjust events such as assaults and cruel treatments," said Moon.
"As you may all know, soldiers can use cellphones after duties. Like this, the military environment is changing into a place where tragic accidents cannot be concealed."
“Today’s military life has changed a lot from the time of the series. Nowadays, if a soldier gets assaulted, not only can he use his individual cell phone, but can also instantly report through expanded channels,” said an army official.
