SEOUL, July 26 (Yonhap) -- Actor Oh Young-soo has become an ambassador for the Korea Performance Arts & Tourism Association, while Choreographer Monika became an ambassador for the "2022 Welcome Daehangno."
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on Tuesday that it has appointed a public relations ambassador to promote Daehangno, a Korean performance tourist destination.
Joining the theater company in 1967, he has appeared on the theater stage of Daehnagno for over 50 years, appearing in 200 pieces.
Last year, he became the first Korean actor to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor as he appeared in "Squid Game."
Choreographer Monika, on the other hand, participated in "Street Woman Fighter" and is evaluated to have performed a stage that expands the scope of dance.
"We will make Korea a world-class tourist attraction by revitalizing the performance centering on Daehangno," said the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Park Bo-gyun.
"I am confident that the two ambassadors will open up new horizons for the Korean culture through various promotional activities," he added. "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will work together so that the country can leap forward as a world-class tourist attraction through performance tourism."
"I will do my best as an ambassador so that Daehangno can be recognized by tourists, just like watching a Shakespeare performance in the UK or a Broadway musical in the US," Oh replied.
"I feel really happy knowing that dance is taking a lead role in culture recently," said Monika. "This is only possible not because of one choreographer but because so many people has been supporting it."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will be holding the 2022 Welcome Daehangno festival, a performance tourism festival in the Daehangno area, from September 24 till October 30.
This year, one will be able to see 100 performances including permanent performances, street performances, and online performances.
