SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group BLACKPINK spoke about the seriousness of climate change around the world through a video message and urged leaders to participate in making changes for a better future at the United Nations 26th Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, England, according to YG Entertainment.

BLACKPINK's main vocalist Rose began the message by saying, "Almost a year ago at the Climate Ambition Summit, we spoke of our journey to learn more about climate change. Because we are convinced this is the most important issue of our time."

"6 years ago in Paris, you pledged to do just that and to limit global warming ideally to 1.5 degrees. The recent UN panel on Climate Change warned that this opportunity may be slipping from our grasp," Rose added.

In Thai, member Lisa said, "Climate change is an established fact. We have learned of the devastating change to nature, to global weather and to the air we breathe. The changes that we feared are already beginning to transform our planet," referring to what could happen when the world temperature rises.

"Almost all warm water coral reefs would be destroyed, and sea ice would melt and devastate wildlife," adding, "We have learned that we must act now. Urgently. To prevent much, much, worse," Jennie emphasized.

"The important thing is that we all take responsibility because it just won't be achieved without collective action," Ji-soo said, continuing the message in Korean. Jisoo also directed the message toward the leaders who attended the meeting, saying, "As you, the world's leaders, gather to focus on our climate crisis, we hope you will make the decisions necessary to protect our planet now and forever."

Towards the end of the speech, all four members said, "Let's work together for our Planet. And take climate action in your area."

YG Entertainment also announced to participate in changing the environment to support BLACKPINK's efforts in protecting the Earth.

"We are coming up with ways to reduce plastic and use paper when producing an album or merchandise goods for fans. We are also in the process of receiving biodegradable plastic samples made of corn starch to review whether it can be used in the future," YG explained.
