SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) -- “I’ve heard I became brighter while filming ‘School 2021.’”

Cho Yi-hyun, who plays Jin Ji-won, an 18-year-old high school student dreaming of becoming a carpenter, in KBS 2TV’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “School 2021,” was in an office in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul.

Jin, who does not hesitate to protest on a rainy day for what she thinks is right, delivered positive energy to viewers with her bold and bright personality.

Cho explained, "Ji-won's biggest charm is that at the age of 18, she has a firm dream and can speak out despite opposition from her parents."

"I'm a boring person, and I'm the type to laugh and react to others. I was worried that it might seem ordinary to people no matter how bright I tried to be, but as I did it, the director stopped me saying, ‘It's too cute.’” (laughs)

Cho said she remembered her high school days when she saw Ji-won, who had a firm dream but was upset due to a lack of talent.

“I wanted to be a musical actress so I went to a related department. I couldn’t sing well so I gave up without giving a shot. I thought about those days and put myself in Ji-won while acting and thinking of the character,” said Cho.

Cho, who said she began to dream of becoming an actor after giving up her dream of becoming a musical actor, impressed viewers as intern Jang Yoon-bok in the drama "Hospital Playlist” series.

She then starred in KBS's "School" series, which is considered a gateway to success, four years after her debut. “It was my first time acting for a long term and I’m so honored and grateful that I was given a good character,” explained Cho.

Cho also expressed gratitude to fellow actors Kim Yo-han, Chu Young-woo, and Hwang Bo-reum-byul, who was born in 1999 and earned viewers the nickname "99s.”

“Also, I don't have much (acting) experience, so I think I actively shared my opinions when making a scene and that created good synergy."

Cho Yi-hyun, who is scheduled to meet viewers with the Netflix original series “All of us are dead," scheduled to be released on Jan. 28, expressed her ambition to show a new appearance, saying, "She is an 18-year-old student like Ji-won, but her personality and situation are too different."
