SEOUL, Feb. 19 (Yonhap) -- The Korean National Ballet announced that it will hold its first performance "Jewels" to mark the 60th anniversary of its foundation this year on Feb. 25th to 27th at the Haeoreum Grand Theater, National Theater of Korea.

"Jewels," which premiered in Korea last year, was created by George Balanchine, the father of neoclassical ballet, inspired by the artistry of luxury jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels.

The performance consists of three acts of emerald, ruby, and diamond, and expresses the characteristics of each jewel with the movements of dancers harmonized with music without a special plot.

The theme of the first act is emerald, which is decorated with a stage reminiscent of elegance, comfort, dress, and nostalgia. The stage will show the 19th-century French Classical Romantic ballet to the music of French composer Gabriel Faure.

Ruby, the second act, presents a lively stage using Stravinsky’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra. The audience will feel the freedom and wit unique to American ballet style.

The third act diamond will present the Russian royal ballet, where Balanchine was trained. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.3 will blend with the ballet, presenting elegance and dignity.

Dancers including Shin Seung-won, Kim Ki-wan, Kim Li-hoe, Park Jong-suk, Park Seul-ki, Heo Seo-myeong, Park Ye-eun, Ha Ji-seok, Han Na-rea, Joung Eun-young, and Lee Jae-woo will join the stage.

Principal ballerina Shin Seung-won will leave the Korean National Ballet with this last performance. Shin, who joined the team in 2009 and has moved audiences and shown special acting, will now focus on training her younger students in the future.

Shin went to the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Arts, Dance, Sejong University. The dancer won prizes including the Finalist, Prix de Lausanne (2003), Best Couple Prize and Dudinskaya Prize, Vaganova-PRIX (2006), Bronze prize, and the New York International Ballet Competition (2007).

A resignation event will be held on Feb. 27, the last day of the performance.
