Actress Park Jeong-ja tests positive for COVID-19 infection...Musical 'Billie Elliot' cancels stage

SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- Senior actress Park Jeong-ja (79) playing for the musical “Billie Elliot” has been tested positive for the COVID-19 infection.

“Park has been tested positive for the COVID-19 infection overnight. Performances for today and tomorrow are cancelled and we will confirm further schedules according to contact tracing process,” said the musical’s producer Sensee Company Tuesday.

Park took part in performing the musical over the weekends (Nov. 26~27), the producer said. After being informed that one of the members who attended a recent meeting for the next performance was diagnosed of the virus, she took the test on the 29th.

“All cast and staff are tested of the infection every week before participating in the play. So far, we haven’t been informed of any additional diagnosed cases,” said Sensee Company.

Based a movie with the same title, the musical is a story of a coal-minor’s little son Billie striving towards his dream of a professional ballet dancer. The actress has played as Billie’s grandmother.

The musical which has pulled up the curtains for its 3rd season at D-cube Arts Center on Augut 31st was scheduled to be staged there until February 2nd 2022.
